One of the main objectives of Nordic Voices is to research new vocal techniques, which they combine with elements derived from traditional Norwegian music and ancient music programmes. Their versatility and command of microtonality and overtone singing enables them to cover the broad aesthetic range that represents the vocal repertoire of the north of Europe.
In Barcelona, Nordic Voices presents a programme of the same name with vocal works specially written for the prestigious sextet by various Nordic composers: from Lasse Thoresen and Henrik Ødegaard, who incorporate timbric elements from the Norwegian kveder tradition in their pieces, to Maja Ratkje, a leading composer and vocalist on the Nordic experimental scene.
