Hasse by Accademia Bizantina

N produces the live recording of Marc’Antonio e Cleopatra performed by Accademia Bizantina in l’Auditori de Barcelona. Accademia Bizantina is currently one of the leading Italian chamber orchestras. Specialising in repertoires from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, the ensemble has been conducted by harpsichordist Ottavio Dantone since 1996. Under his expert direction, the Accademia Bizantina has done significant work in seeking out Baroque music and approaching it from an aesthetic perspective, as well as specialising in the rediscovery and performance of operas. Its Marc’Antonio e Cleopatra project falls into this category, recovering the original idea of the opera by Johann Adolph Hasse, one of the most important and most successful stage composers of the 18th century. The Accademia Bizantina is inviting two of today’s most outstanding voices to perform the roles of Marc Antony and Cleopatra: one is the deep, velvety voice of French contralto Delphine Galou, whose technique allows her to perform the most virtuoso roles; the other is up-and-coming mezzosoprano Sophie Rennert, one of the most promising and versatile singers of today, whom we have already had the opportunity to discover at some of Europe’s most prominent venues, the most prestigious lied competitions or making her début at the recent editions of the Bayreuth and Salzburg Festivals.
